Board Members
Dr. Patricia Watkins, Chair of the Board
Dr. Watkins, Vice President Emeritus and Professor Emeritus retired from the University of the Incarnate Word in 2010 and served as Consultant to the President until 2016. While at UIW, she served as the first Dean of College Preparatory Programs, including Principal of Incarnate Word High School, the first Dean of the Dreeben School of Education, and Vice President for International Affairs. She was also a member of the University Strategic Planning Committee and the President’s Executive Council.
Michael Agnese, JD/MBA, Vice-Chair of the Board
Mr. Agnese is an in-house attorney at Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, handling contracts, real estate, and various legal and business matters. Before joining Cedar Fair in 2022, he ran his own law firm from 2019 to 2022 and served as general counsel for Schlitterbahn Waterparks and Resorts from 2014 to 2019. His previous experience includes managing industrial, office, and retail assets in the commercial real estate industry, with roles in portfolio management, capital projects, budgeting, financial reporting, and due diligence. Mr. Agnese is actively involved in local organizations, serving as President of the Children’s Advocacy Center of Comal County, a member of the New Braunfels Downtown Board, and a volunteer with Communities in Schools of South-Central Texas.
Kathy Sosa, Secretary of the Board
Katherine Sosa is an independent marketing and political design consultant and artist with a distinguished career spanning over twenty years. She was the only woman on George W. Bush’s gubernatorial and presidential campaigns and has won national awards for her advertising work. Kathy founded Sosa Consultation & Design with her husband Lionel and previously led Garcia LKS, the largest independent Hispanic ad agency in the Southwest. Her experience includes roles as a strategist, creative director, and copywriter for major brands and political campaigns. Holding degrees in political science from St. Mary’s University, she serves on the Generation Texas Board and has been appointed to various advisory boards by Texas governors. As an artist, she has been recognized for her exhibitions and is represented in galleries across the U.S. Recently, Kathy co-produced the documentary series “Children of the Revolución,” exploring the impact of the Mexican Revolution on American history.
Michael Beucler
Mr. Beucler is the Principal and CEO of Beucler Properties and BFLP Finance, L.L.C., and the co-founder and CEO of Devils River Bourbon Whiskey (DRBW). With over thirty years of experience in global real estate, construction, banking, and financial services, he previously co-founded and led FAS Construction Management, Inc., which provided over $10 billion in risk management services before its sale in 2006. He also holds board directorships for several companies and has served on the Board of Trustees at the University of the Incarnate Word. Mr. Beucler earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Texas Lutheran University.
Eric Chen
Mr. Eric Chen, a University of the Incarnate Word alumnus with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, has extensive experience in deal structuring and business development in Greater China and the United States. His career in the automotive industry includes securing lithium battery purchase agreements, investing in electric vehicle companies, forming a $100 million joint venture in the U.S., and structuring agreements with Fortune 500 companies like FedEx and Ryder.
Chien-Cheng Peter Chen
Mr. Chen is an entrepreneur with diverse experience in hospitality, international trade, banking, industrial construction consulting, and laboratory testing. He frequently travels to Asia for business and has deep expertise in the Asian market. Previously, he served as Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors for the Taiwanese Heritage Society of Houston and was a member of the Society of Houston Taiwanese Association of America. Mr. Chen holds a Master of Sports Science from Louisiana Tech University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a minor in Computer Information Systems from John Brown University.
Pat Frost
Mr. Frost is a recognized leader in both the financial services industry and the community who seamlessly combines his role as an executive manager with his commitment to community service, working passionately in the areas of economic development, health care, education, and sports business. He has chaired more than 40 boards in the community and played an integral part in the growth of Frost Bank to its current position as one of the 50 largest US banks with $48.6 billion in assets.
Adreain Maurice Henry, OD, EdD, MBA
Dr. Adreain Henry is the fourth president of Mercy College of Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa. He previously served as Chief Academic Officer and Associate Provost at Hallmark University in San Antonio, Texas, where he was also Dean of Arts, Sciences, Graduate Studies, and Research. Dr. Henry’s academic journey began as a first-generation college student at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, where he earned an Associate of Arts in music and pre-med. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Southern Mississippi, a Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Optometry from Salus University, a Master of Arts in Business from Webster University, an MBA from the University of Virginia, and a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Management from the University of Pennsylvania. Known for his integrity, leadership, and dedication, Dr. Henry has built a distinguished career in healthcare, education, and the U.S. Army, focusing on transformative leadership and the ministry of healing.
Ashley Hu
Mrs. Hu built a successful career with her renowned restaurants in Austin, Texas, which were considered some of the best Asian dining establishments in the area. Her restaurants attracted a diverse clientele across various ages, races, and social groups, establishing her strong connections with both local Asian and broader communities. Even after retiring from the restaurant business, she continues to offer valuable insights and support to universities in setting up and organizing various initiatives.
Carolyn Labatt
Ms. Labatt has led Computer Solutions from its early days as an Apple retail store to its current status as a technology powerhouse. In addition to being CEO of Computer Solutions, Carolyn serves as a director on several boards including Broadway Bank and Texas Biomedical Research Institute. She possesses a B.B.A. in Finance from Southern Methodist University and was recognized by the North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce as the “Outstanding Small Business Leader in San Antonio.”
Lionel Sosa
Mr. Sosa is a CEO, full-time portrait artist, and marketing consultant who founded Sosa Bromley Aguilar and Associates, the largest Hispanic advertising agency in the U.S., with clients including Coca-Cola and Anheuser-Busch. He advises the president of Texas A&M University-San Antonio and has served on various boards, including the University of the Incarnate Word, The Texas A&M University System, Sesame Workshop, ACT, and the Public Broadcasting System. Recognized as one of the 25 most influential Hispanics in America by Time Magazine and one of the top five “Keepers of the Latino Culture” by NBC.com, he was also awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of the Incarnate Word for his contributions to higher education.
