About THSU
Texas Health and Science University was founded as the Texas Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1990, a single-purpose institution for the training of acupuncturists. Texas passed legislation creating the Texas State Board of Acupuncture Examiners in 1993, and the school was approved by the Texas State Board of Acupuncture Examiners.
The first class graduated in 1992
In 1994, the school’s accreditation process began with the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (ACAHM); the school was accredited in 1996 and has been continuously re-accredited.
1997-2007
In 1997, the school was granted authority by the Texas State Board of Acupuncture Examiners to award the Master of Science in Oriental Medicine (MSOM) degree as the Texas College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In April 2007, the TCTCM campus student and professional clinics expanded.
2013-2014
In 2013, the school name changed to Texas Health & Science University, in support of health as an integrative East-West medicine, and to award the degree of Master in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MSAOM). An additional campus location in San Antonio was established. Located at the University of Incarnate Word Saidoff Center, the campus houses the administration offices, library, and classroom with student and professional clinics.
2023-2024
In January 2023, ACAHM approved awarding the Master of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine (MAcCHM). THSU moved to a new Austin location on May 1, 2024 at 2015 South I-35 Frontage Road, Austin, Texas, 78741.
